Drosera capillaris, sometimes referred to as the "pink sundew" is found commonly in the southeastern United States "from Virginia to Florida to Texas. Forms are also known from Central and South America" (page 131 of The Savage Garden). The leaves can develop red coloration in bright enough lighting, but otherwise will remain yellow-green or yellow-orange. There is also a form that lacks pigment and is referred to as "albino" or "alba" since it's not an official cultivar yet. Plants do not form hibernacula (dormant buds), but the leaves of "Long-Arm" forms shrink back quite a bit in cooler temperatures. Frequent feeding indoors will help leaves remain as large as possible Selected quotes from Schnell, Donald E. Carnivorous Plants of the United States and Canada p.69-70: "D. capillaris is a prostrate rosette averaging 3.5 cm across, but growing up to 7.5 cm in some extreme southern locations. (However, if grown indoors and left unfed, you may notice the growth shrinks back to remain at 1.25 or 2 cm in diameter). "The petioles are of moderate length, 1.0-2.5 cm." "the flowers are either pink or white, the former somewhat more frequent." Brought to you by The Sundew Grow Guides, www.growsundews.com Thanks for watching!

This is just a quick tour of the greenhouse I just built in my basement. It's currently housing carnivorous plants and a few Tillandsia and one other Bromeliad, as well as a couple other various plants. This was intended to be more of a show of the greenhouse, not any plants, so I'm sorry if that disappoints you, lol.

The tropical forms of Drosera intermedia do not require a cold dormancy period and can be grown year-round in favorable conditions. They do best when fed frequently and given plenty of moisture. For more detailed info, check out this page: www.growsundews.com Sometimes, itseems I'm unable to convey the true shape/size of each sundew species using only pictures, so I hope the "video tour" gives you a better understanding about these sundews. Tissue culture (TC) has become a very important conservational aspect regarding endangered plants, because artificial produced species help to reduce poaching at their natural habitats. Mike Rinck, president of the AG3 TC-lab and nursery in Eustis, Florida, shows his state of the art propagation of ornamental plants as well as carnivorous plants. Beside Venus Flytraps, Drosera and Sarracenia AG3 offers also the Byblis cultivar 'Goliath'. Growing that form of Byblis filifolia also in our greenhouse in Germany, we are able to show first pictures of a fertile hybrid with Byblis liniflora. This trans-species cross-pollination (2010) has now been published in the December 2011 issue of Carnivorous Plant Newsletter (ICPS). The video is an excerpt from our topic CP-film "Sarracenia - Endangered Gems/Gefährdete Juwelen", which is bilingual in the German and English language. A High Definition version is also available on Blu-ray Disc.

The pond is frozen within days of filling with water. The carnivorous plants are now immersed and frozen in place. Snow will cover the works and i'll cover it with a leaf mulch to help against freeze/thaw cycles - the number 1 killer of unprotected plants in exposed pots here on The Rock.

Got my wetland pond filled just in time to settle the carnivorous plants in for their dormancy. Weather is getting cold fast and the plants will be left out all winter where the wetland will be completed and they will be planted in them permanently. I've lost too many carnivores in pots over winter where their roots and rhizomes were subject to drastic temperature and moisture fluctuations. This wetland will be a replica of a natural one where these plants are found in the wild providing a wet, stable environment with gentle fluctuations in temperature.
